Led Zepplin and Jay-Z Sittin' in a Tree

Before Gnarles Barkley's Danger Mouse drove us "Crazy" on the billboard charts, he brought us The Grey Album, a mix of Jay-Z's The Black Album and The Beatles The White Album. It amazed us all with pure genius. Now, we have a copy kat named DJ Doc Roc, releasing a mix called American Zepplin. With some of Led Zepplin's best songs and Jay-Z's American Gangster we get another dose of rap/rock mixed really well.

Jay-Z has been known to be a rock music fan. A few years ago, he hooked up with rockers, Linkin Park to release an official album and DVD called Collision Course, a mash up of Jay-Z and Linkin Park songs. He's also worked with Fall Out Boy on their last album. Jay-Z's music is legendary, but his last album did not do too well and neither has American Gangster - yet. A mix like American Zepplin offers a wider range audience and curiosity.

The entire mix is not great, but there are great songs in there. No Hook is reflective, as Jay-Z's lyrics and the emotional guitar riff of Tangerine is something you want to listen to over and over again. Sweet and Heartbreaker has a nice beat that would get people ready to get on the dance floor. Party Life and I'm Gonna Leave You sound like it could have been on The Blue Print. Where as, Ignorant Shit and In my time of Dying will get the hip-hop heads bobbin', the head bangers bangin' and the strippers ready for their poles.
