The Monotonix: intoxicating your whiteness

Remember that Dave Chapelle episode with John Mayer and how rock music makes white people do weird things? Well, The Monotonix does just that. This trio band hailing from Tel Aviv, Israel, came to Houston, with some kick ass attitude that got everyone dancing and roaming the streets. Not satisfied with Israeli rock, The Monotonix made their own way, with orange Borat shorts, hairy backs and asses, and a few strong riffs.

The gig started out on the ground of the second floor of the Mink in the backroom. The band was on our level, moving the drums around the floor, to where the lead singer was standing on the bar to where straight men took off their shirts and swung them around their heads. We laid on the floor in silence, we listened to the singer tell us to 'shut the fuck up.' Not only that, we took it to the streets, as we chased the band outside to the parking lot and danced our way to the the sidewalk, where the singer jumped off the gate, into the crowd. Nothing was set on fire, like for Austin, but for it being a Houston show, we were surprised and thankful to have such an amazing and fun band take us on a journey like we have never experienced.

It was worth way more than the 10 dollars I paid. I had so much fun, I still can't contain myself. All hail my Israeli Bretheren. Come back soon and kick it.
